Industry analyst firm Gartner has published Solution Scorecard for Amazon Relational Database Service, with AWS earning an industry-best 95 rating, including 100% of required criteria by Gartner for an operational database platform as a service (dbPaaS).
The report focuses on Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS), the AWS managed relational database service designed to dramatically simplify the deployment of databases, with support for MySQL, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, Oracle, and SQL Server. The Amazon RDS family also includes Amazon Aurora, a relational database built for the cloud that combines the performance and availability of traditional enterprise databases with the simplicity and cost-effectiveness of MySQL and PostgreSQL open-source databases. These services integrate with other AWS data and analytics services to help companies modernize their data infrastructure.
The rating of 95 earned by AWS in the new report is based on analysis of criteria in key functions: deployment, development, performance and scalability, data integration, management and operations, and database security. The report then categorizes these functions into required, preferred, and optional criteria for relational database platforms as a service. In addition to its 100% required rating across all functions, Amazon RDS earned a 94 rating for preferred and 70 for optional dbPaaS criteria, according to Gartner.
